Up and down the Towers in Splat Zones (15-4, Tri-slosher)

3rd October 2017 – 7.00 am

I make my standard start to a sloshing Moray Towers Splat Zones. My squidmates look to be pushing forwards aggressively too, which seems like a jolly good idea. I get lucky when I see a squid flop on to a block and apparently not move, flushing him out with two sloshes. I don't get quite as much luck when the Splattershot comes for me, but so it goes.

I head down the side and across to the purple Splat Zone, taking the inked route up the wall, but just as a squidmate comes down. Oh, I see why, and head back down rather than do something silly. I take the long way up instead, finding the Bamboozler, but sloshing badly enough that I pop my Bubbler to be safe.

Back at the top, I nearly splat someone below me, but I think they turn in to a Kraken. I back off as the Kraken squids up the wall, and think I have the edge when they don't quite make it, but a .96 Gal Deco from behind reminds me that this is a team battle. I head back down, change directions, and instead manage to cover a squidmate from the side, which is good.

Up and down, inking the Splat Zone, splatting inklings, until I pick a fight with a Kraken. I think I win that, although my celebrations are somewhat cut short. Still, it looks like we're about to win the battle, scoring over ninety unanswered points. But we can't rest on our laurels, and although I try to keep things green, having to splat an inkling out of the way gives just enough time for the purple team to capture both Splat Zones and give us quite a buffer to work through.

Maybe no knockout victory for us, but as long as we don't get silly the victory should still be ours. I try not to squid headlong in to the Bamboozler, but he does me a favour by launching an Inkstrike, and taking his time over it. My Bubbler charges just in time too, and I help turn the purple Splat Zone green, seconds before my squidmates do the same to our Splat Zone. Nice!

I aim to be disruptive for a bit, inking nice swathes of green ink up the ramps, and circle back down to get a splat on one unsuspecting inkling, followed by two incidental splats on what must have been already quite inky inklings. I take another trip around the purple side of the Towers, and rather unsportingly wait in the ink for an inkling to appear. I try not to do that too much.

I drop down to find a squidmate battling a Kraken, and give him a hand, before heading back up and launching myself at potential targets in a pretty audacious manner. It was never going to end well. An Inkstrike means our Splat Zone needs some care, which I'm happy to provide as I'm over here, and I have to hold on as another flies in.

Pausing on the outskirts of the second Inkstrike spies a splatting opportunity, which I'm only too pleased to take, before tidying up our Splat Zone again. And, with that, the battle ends. It's a decent victory for us. Woomy!

Sloshing all over the Splat Zones (10-4, Tri-slosher)

2nd October 2017 – 7.00 pm

Nice and safe start, sloshing on to our Splat Zone. I jump down to take care of a yellow Sprinkler, but a squidmate does it on my way down, so I press forwards. I nearly fall off the block, just about sticking to the ink, and complete the fall when I try not to be caught out by the Echolocator.

I head down the side next, and get lucky catching an Inkstriker that I can't see, and a second inkling dropping down just in front of her. Their absence frees up the yellow Splat Zone, but inefficiency in inking it causes me to run in to a Splash-o-matic. I take the same route back, using the inked wall to be a bit sneakier, but even an Echolocator can't make an N-ZAP approachable for my bucket.

Still no score. I am in two minds as I return, my indecision useful when an Echolocator hits. My Cold-blooded shirt drops that soon enough, but as I am about to roam an Inkstrike hits. I deal with that quickly first. I sneak around the side, spotting an inkling to splat on my way, and get above the yellow Splat Zone. It seems my inklings are pressing high too, and we capture the Splat Zone to start our counter. Nice!

I move up as a squidmate feels some inky pressure, hoping that my appearance will be a surprise, and that my Bubbler keeps me safe, but the yellow inklings adapt pretty quickly. With so much yellow ink on our ramps, I take the highest route to our Splat Zone, to cover up the mess a bit and practice some caution, before going across to the other side again.

I plan to go on to the ledge, but I see a squidmate already there, so I squid directly up the wall. The Splat Bomb isn't a threat, but is a good indicator of activity, and my sloshing finds the culprit, and gives me a route to the Splat Zone. With that captured, I squid my way up the wall and start claiming more turf. I go higher than I ought, and ignore the Splat Zones a bit too much, but I deal with them on my return. The yellow one is purple, and I turn ours purple too, before dealing effectively with an interloper.

I head back across to the other side, where some decent squidding and a squirt of luck gets me some splats, and maybe helps a little in inking the Splat Zones. My little streak continues until the end of the battle, where we remain in control of the Splat Zones, and win without yellow scoring a point. Woomy!

Trading ink in Splat Zones (9-4, Tri-slosher)

2nd October 2017 – 7.00 am

My plan to sit above the Splat Zones and slosh from high is thrown out of the window when I see a teal inkling looking to disrupt our Splat Zone. Not on my watch! Nor a squidmate's, who gets the splatting blow. From there, I follow an orange path around the side, narrowly passing a teal inkling, and make a beeline for the spot above the teal Splat Zone. I help capture the Splat Zone, but at just the same time as the teal team capture ours. This aggression will not stand.

I decide to hold my position, more or less, and keep the teal Splat Zone orange instead of running backwards and forwards and potentially losing both Splat Zones. A squidmate has the same idea and helps, but once I'm splatted I may as well swing past our Splat Zone to see what can be done. I re-capture our Splat Zone as the teal team re-capture theirs, as I predicted. The dual Inkstrikes is a nice touch, though.

The Towers look somewhat more teal than orange at the moment, which probably needs some attention. The smoother they can move around, the less able we are to stop them. We lose control of our Splat Zone for just long enough to give the teal team a tiny lead, and I push across to aggressively move to get above the teal Splat Zone, using all my resources to crush any inklings in my way. It goes well enough to immediately snatch the lead from the team teal.

That Slosher is definitely a nuisance, using his bucket effectively from above us. I look to move up to splat him away, at least for a few seconds, but a squidmate must have done that, because I meet him on his way down, after catching another inkling. I make his return short, anyway. His next outing is not much longer, thanks to my Bubbler, but it runs out as I approach the N-ZAP, the Tri-slosher's natural predator.

We hold control of the Splat Zones for a decent amount of time, gaining a healthy lead, and swinging past our Splat Zone has my stopping an inkling trying to get the drop on us. Trying to get across the other side almost has my falling foul to the Slosher, but I sensibly change tack, although my lack of aim when finally encountering him means we trade ink. So it goes.

As the battle winds down, our control over the Splat Zones has me confident of our victory. I move down to help ensure we don't go in to extra time. After out-manoeuvring one inkling, I jump down to our Splat Zone just as an Inkstrike flies in. I clench and jump backwards, with nowhere really to go, and somehow come out unsplatted and on firm turf. That's another reason to celebrate. Woomy!

Museum of Splat Zones (12-3, Carbon Roller Deco)

1st October 2017 – 7.00 pm

Inking the rotating wall is no mistake, it's preparation for a sneaky slide across to the central column. Not making the jump to the other side is a mistake, though. Never mind, I roll with it, ink the Splat Zones a little, and give it another try. There's not much to do up there, as it turns out, and I can't resist dive-bombing the Dual Squelcher. The active Echolocator gets me another splat, and from there I can help recover the Splat Zones.

I head across to the other side again and find a position to use my Seeker Rush. It doesn't get splats, but there's lots of disruptive green ink. A squidmate saves my skin from a blaster too, which is appreciated. There's not much to do, that I can see, apart from maybe an inkling below me. But they are hidden in the ink, and I can hear a blaster approach.

Finding the blaster gets an unsporting splat in the back, and a vantage point to see another dive-bombing opportunity. And from there, I can splat an inkling holding a Killer Wail. It's all going quite smoothly so far. Even jumping back across to the blue side, straight towards the Luna Blaster, only ends in my getting another splat. Am I invulnerable? Nope! But it is the suspiciously low-level, probably smurf who eventually splats me.

I return with an opportunistic Seeker splat, and use my inked wall to get across to the centre column, where I trade splats with the smurf. That'll do, particularly as a squidmate's Splat Bomb Rush recaptures the Splat Zones for us. My sneakiness on the wall doesn't work so well when I fall off, but so it goes sometimes, and I just wait to make my return, bypassing all the attention aimed towards our base, and roll through the Splat Zones to splat the smurf from behind.

I get my Seeker Rush working, but not to good effect. The inkling lobbing Splat Bombs on me isn't paying enough attention, though, as I manage to close the gap and splat them where they hide. Squidding around gets another splat from above, kind of, and I roam a bit before realising that the extra inkable block near the base isn't here in Splat Zones, and beat a hasty retreat.

I don't really have to run far, though. The Splat Zones were green, and we were seconds away from the knockout victory. Woomy!

Two-shot tigerears in Splat Zones (8-4, Hero Charger Replica)

1st October 2017 – 7.00 am

I've found a really nice perch to ink our Splat Zone on Moray Towers, and have a good route to get there quickly. My Hero Charger Replica has just about enough range to keep the pesky yellow inklings out of the Splat Zone too, but only if they think they have to get in the Splat Zone. They could stand back and shoot in, but don't tell them that please.

I pretty much battle in maintenance mode to start with, overseeing our Splat Zone and trying to keep myself safe. With my somewhat dodgy aim, that second task is a bit more tricky than the first, but at least I've chose Splat Bombs to give myself a more reliable option.

I pretty much trust my squidmates to take care of the yellow Splat Zone, but with nothing happening at ours I move across to see if I can help. A little, probably. And although I miss the Roller on my first shot, despite him being mostly stationary, I get him on my second shot, as he looks down aggressively on me holding a Killer Wail. That was close.

I take two shots to splat the Splatterscope too. To be fair, I'm really happy I splatted her on the second shot, even though I got splatted myself. A quick butchers at our Splat Zone on my return shows little change, so I move back across to the yellow Splat Zone. With the Splatterscope at the top of the wall overlooking the Splat Zone, my best option seems to be to get close and use a Splat Bomb.

Now our Splat Zone needs some attention, which I take care of with a few shots, before I need to protect myself. Aiming down the ramp when on the flat part doesn't work well. A Splat Bomb gives me some breathing room, but the Inkzooka is a bit threatening. Again, it takes me two shots to get the splat, which gets me splatted too. But I get the splat.

I help with some turf control next, including inkling over the yellow path up the wall. That's always best not to overlook, lest you get surprised by a squid appearing from nowhere. But our Splat Zone is under some pressure from the Splatterscope, who I can't get close to here, and I move up. The Splatterscope moves forwards too, to send a Rush of Splat Bombs our way. This time, both my two shots miss, but a squidmate gets the splat, and I get two shots at a different inkling, which I make.

I take care of the Splat Zone for a bit, before getting worried by a Roller. I think he's gone, but he hasn't, but my confident movement coincidentally gets me out of flicked trouble at just the right moment. My two-shot skill lets me down for a bit, maybe being just out of range of the Splatterscope, and although miss the Aerospray on the ledge, my ink slows him down enough for our Slosher to get the splat. Nice!

I miss one shot on an approaching inkling and go for the second, when the Splatterscope shows me how effective one-shot splatting is. I should practice that. And so I do, aiming at the obvious hiding spot and getting a clean splat in one shot. I won't profess to being an expert in the charger just yet. My Splat Bomb rolling was always pretty good, though.

The clock ticks down, and I am near my perch to ensure that our Splat Zone is blue enough that we don't enter extra time. A good battle, and victory to us. Woomy!

Making Splat Zones look easy (6-0, Tri-slosher)

30th September 2017 – 7.00 pm

I'm going for that E-litre 3K. Walleye Warehouse gives me a decent opportunity to do it too, and I dart around the edge and up and behind the green team. I surprise the E-litre 3K nicely, although maybe disappoint my squidmate who aims the Killer Wail well. I drop down to get a second splat, and start turning the Splat Zones purple, which is arguably more the aim of the battle than splatting the E-litre 3Ks.

Everything turns purple, I keep myself safe, and head around the edge to look for more opportunity. I exact vengeance for a squidmate, before retreating again. More opportunity awaits as an inkling jumps on to the container, but I pop my Bubbler as the green ink rains down on me. A trip around the side reminds me that the Warehouse doesn't have the extra block for Splat Zones, so I just recharge my Bubbler a little.

I return with excellent timing, and catch a Roller squidding past me. It was a bit foolish of him, to be honest, given the sea of purple ink he was wading in to, but I understand the pressure that sight can imbue too. I have to evade a Sloshing Machine making a nice mess to our side, and get a decent Disruptor throw his way to help prevent his reaching the Splat Zones.

A little more not entirely necessary maintenance, and I think I can allow myself a little victory dance. I don't often play this well.

Purple in the Splat Zones (6-1, Tri-slosher)

30th September 2017 – 7.00 am

I can see green ink coming to the wall of our Splat Zone, but the best I can do is stall the inkling trying to squid up it. I get a splat turning back to where the rest of the action is, just about surviving myself, and squid up quickly to defy the Splat Charger and incidentally capture the Splat Zones.

With everything under control, I move in to position to watch the short-cut up the wall. Yep, here comes an inkling. If you haven't seen it from the top, you probably don't realise quite how obvious it is to catch an inkling coming up that way. Pretty easy, and so care should be taken. The charger nearly catches me, but the laser sight gives her away.

The Splat Charger is splatted by a squidmate, but my movement helps me splat a different inkling coming over the wall. An Instrike forces me away from the Splat Zones for a moment, and coming back encourages me to pop my Bubbler at last, helping me stay unsplatted for even longer.

We seem to be rather ruthless in pushing for turf as a team. But we also have different limits, it seems, which perhaps causes our undoing when we become separated, allowing the green inklings to take us two-on-one. But a squidmate who hung back lets loose with a Suction Bomb Rush to help push the green team away from the Splat Zones, and an Inkstrike is quickly covered over.

I super-jump back with seemingly little to do, but one Splat Zone is turned green immediately. I leap in to action by falling off the roof, which almost works in my favour to hide me from the Splat Charger. With her out of the way, the Splat Zone is turned purple again, and that's pretty much it for the battle. Short and sweet. Woomy!

E-litres and Inkzookas in Splat Zones (12-6, Tri-slosher)

29th September 2017 – 7.00 pm

I spy that E-litre 3K, and go looking for him, as I tend to do. Not even an inkling in my way will stop me, a nice Disruptor throw and couple of sloshes getting him out of my way. The E-litre 3K is not on the normal perch on the grating or container, though, but moving along that route finds him squidding on top of the boxes. That's quite high for my bucket, but one slosh forces him off, and another splats him.

The Carbon Roller is close, but my Bubbler is charged and ready, and her rolling around the containers doesn't confuse me. I cut the corner and get a third splat, helping us taking control of the Splat Zones and taking the lead. I push forwards aggressively again, just about staying out of the line of fire to head around the back again, where the E-litre 3K has cautiously stayed a bit further back. I think I come as a bit of a surprise a second time.

My Bubbler keeps me safe a little longer, but I manage to squid right in to an Inkzooka blast as I patrol our area. The side route looks safest with so much green ahead, but being Echolocated doesn't help when I'm trying to be sneaky. The E-litre 3K gets a bead on me, so I stay out of sight until the Echolocator dissipates, and luckily have a Bubbler ready when I push in to the sea of green. That splat and a bunch more sloshing helps recapture the Splat Zones.

I do some tidying up, turning back when the Splat Zones are neutralised. But my squidmates are on top of the situation, keeping the ink flowing and the green team pushed back. I help where I can, which includes distracting the Splattershot by giving him enough charge to launch an Inkstrike. My next outing is short but sweet, arriving at the edge of another Inkstrike as two green inklings super-jump ink. I don't survive the encounter, but neither do both of them, and their puddles of purple ink keep the Splat Zones out of green control.

Getting Echolocated keeps me cautious again, and when it drops and I push forwards, I look to see what I can do about the Inkzooka I can here. Run headlong in to it, apparently. I can do better. Hitting the side sees the Carbon Roller roll under me, but I don't see her squid away. That makes me cautious, and although I probably waste time, I don't end up splatted either. And by the time I reach the side of the Splat Zones, my Bubbler is charged, just right for trying to slosh the Splatterscope with pressure coming from elsewhere.

I don't manage to splat the Splatterscope, but that's okay, as I get two other inklings instead, and a squidmate's Inkstrike comes in to secure the Splat Zones for us. I splat the Splattershot Pro away, and loiter with intent on the boxes. I see an opportunity coming my way, and balls it up. Never mind, my squidmates get two splats.

With the seconds ticking away, we have enough time to secure the knockout victory, if we can just keep the Splat Zones purple. In trying to achieve that, I run in to the E-litre 3K and his Burst Bombs. But that's okay, we still win the battle. Woomy!

Taking back the Splat Zones (9-4, Tri-slosher)

29th September 2017 – 7.00 am

The Splat Zones can take care of themselves for a bit. I'm going around the back. And I'm taking the long route this time, which pays off, as I'm not spotted by the Roller taking the opposing route, and get my first splat before continuing along. Pausing for a second at the junction lets me gauge where inklings might be, and I take the low route to find one immediately. This is a nice start.

I hear an Inkzooka and rush to meet it, but the inkling is on ground too high for my bucket. I try to slosh through a grate, for whatever effect that may have, and turn back when I have nothing else to do, right in to a Suction Bomb. So it goes. I come back down the side corridor, and have an inkling right in my sights. I lose her immediately, and wrongly guess her direction of squidding, thus turning the tables on myself.

The Splat Zones turn blue, my chosen route back is blocked by a Killer Wail, but I press on regardless, through the blue ink, through the Roller, and helpfully covered by a green Inkzooka to get behind the blue team again. That lets me destroy a Beakon and splat an inkling immediately, before turning my attention to the Splat Zones. I do okay, thanks to my Bubbler, but I believe too much in the Bubbler and the depths of my ink tank.

Well, our early lead has been demolished, and it doesn't even seem like I can safely get back to the Splat Zones before the blue team win. But my squimdates neutralise the Splat Zones just as I drop down behind the Dual Squelcher, relieving some pressure, and with the Roller rolling away, we manage to turn the Splat Zones green. There is still hope. I track the Echolocated Roller, and look for the splat. I have to skirt a Killer Wail to do it, but I get it.

I pop my Bubbler as a Suction Bomb gets thrown my way, which is really lucky, as I hadn't seen the one stuck to the wall. My Bubbler saves my skin. I squid away from the blue ink for the moment, and find some more, looking to drop down from above. I push the inkling back, but don't hang around to get splatted. Instead, I move to the other end of the grate, where the inkling has kindly moved herself to, allowing me to finish the splat.

I move up and around, and splat a Disrupted Dynamo Roller, but I'm a bit vulnerable. If the Dual Squelcher hadn't got me, the Suction Bomb I was standing next to would have. But that's okay, a squidmate avenges me immediately, and before I've even returned to the fray we've retaken the lead! Nice!

I don't even need to get back to the Splat Zones. I think about doing a little dance, but decide just to slosh a bit. Woomy!

Bucketing around the Splat Zones (11-3, Tri-slosher)

28th September 2017 – 7.00 pm

My desire to get behind the teal team has my zooming up and across the Splat Zones, and down the other side of the building to catch anyone squidding up. No one here, but an inkling is coming my way. I've kinda cornered myself too, but a Disruptor hits and helps a little. I still am perhaps a little aggressive in moving up, but at least I make the splat mutual.

It seems that a teal inkling's quest to behind our team went better than mine. I don't quite manage to close the gap to catch him mid-Inkstrike, and the range of the Splattershot Pro keeps my Tri-slosher away well enough for him to evade me further. It takes my attention away from the Splat Zones too, but losing the lead a minute in to the battle is hardly onerous, and we stop the teal timer pretty quickly anyway.

With my Bubbler charged, I head across the gap to, well, directly face an Inkzooka. It's good that my Bubbler use was primed, and it's even better that a squidmate has a Killer Wail lined up. That was a good exchange in our favour. I push across and start trying to hold more turf, and although I miss dropping down on to an Inkstrike-in-progress, it's probably for the best, keeping me on higher turf.

I squid this way and that, and get back on the ledge to drop down a bit too far behind a teal inkling, but right next to a super-jumping ring. I am a bit lucky in not getting splatted by the landing brush, and also a bit lucky that my Bubbler charges as I look for the Splattershot Pro. I am, however, quite sensible in stopping my pursuit as my Bubbler runs out.

My return to the top catches a Suction Bomb Rush mid-Rush, which is handy, and I reset to squid near the short-cut to the top just in time to see an inkling appear. I rather make a mess of the splat, but I fluster the teal inkling enough to get it anyway. Heading towards the Inkzooka is instinctive now, but I am a bit less prepared for three inklings to be swarming our Splat Zone, and get easily flanked by the Brush.

An Inkzooka greets me as I get to the top of the building, but I had the good sense to take the indirect route there, which gives me wiggle room. It also gives me cover, and time for the Inkzooka to run out and my Bubbler to charge. Two inklings are splatted quickly, and pressing on neutralises one Splat Zone and gets another splat. The fourth inkling is caught in crossfire.

Another Killer Wail gives us cover to capture the other Splat Zone and start our counter again, but squidding back gets me caught by the Octobrush. My squidmates remain in control, though. Heading back to the battle gets almost enough ink on top of an inkling sneaking behind our Splat Zone, and although pushing forwards has my running out of ink, that forces me to squid in the ink, which itself moves me in to an advantageous position.

From atop the block, I slosh over a landing super-jump, and the puddle from that splat helps me manoeuvre around the incoming ink, force the inkling to evade to lower turf, which just lets me slosh more effectively. I tidy up a bit, then sit by the short-cut up the wall. A nicely thrown Splat Bomb convinces the Brush that the landing is safe, but I prove otherwise.

The Splat Zones remain a solid orange as our counter ticks down to zero, giving us the knockout victory. Woomy!
