Splats in the Dome in Tower Control (24-8, Tri-slosher)

7th November 2017 – 7.00 am

A splatty start, with a good, opportunistic Disruptor. It's a shame it doesn't catch both inklings, but I make a good choice for which to aim for to start with. I keep up my good sloshing until I stay just out of range of the Heavy Splatling. As is my wont, I head the long way back, which is probably a mistake at this point of the battle, and the teal team get a significant lead, no matter how many splats I manage to get to stop them.

My splatting continues as we vie for control of the Tower in the middle of the map, and although I get a bit lucky here and there, my manoeuvring between sloshes must help me stay safe. All the while, the Tower is being pushed forwards. I work the angles, trying to prevent us getting flanked or inked from above, but push forwards aggressively when my Bubbler charges. A Splat Bomb Rush is neutralised, but the Squiffer is superbly calm with his timing.

We take the lead! Maybe I do know what I'm doing sometimes. Not always when approaching Squiffers, though. I'm blasted trying to stop the next two teal Tower pushes, but on different sides of the Dome, which I do well to avoid during my next extended tussle with the teal team. I come out with a handful of splats after a rather hectic period, and the tower is reset to the centre of the Dome.

It looks like a good time to hit the flank, with a squidmate on the Tower, but she's soon splatted off. Never mind, I get a clean splat on the Squiffer this time, and continue around to hit the Tower from behind, before being hit from behind myself. I think I missed seeing her on the grate above me. So it goes.

With only seconds to go, I make an idiot of myself in trying to squid up a wall, before getting caught by an Ink Mine surrounded by the wrong colour ink. I think it doesn't matter, as time is up, but the teal team are on the Tower. We are in to extra time. I'm not going to do anything impetuous, so I head up to view the Tower, and drop down to come around its flank. I splat the Luna Blaster, and ink the Tower from behind, clearing it of teal inklings, before hopping on to end the battle. Woomy!

But the battle doesn't end. A Kraken appears and transforms in to a teal inkling just in front of me, keeping the Tower contested. He starts jumping like a lunatic, but with a squidmate for help, we get that loon off the Tower. Now the battle is won. Woomy!

It didn't feel like twenty-four splats, but that's quite a total, and probably my highest. The Tri-slosher can be really good for accumulating splats. That's good, because I hadn't changed my t-shirt since playing Rainmaker, and it wasn't doing much for me in Tower Control.

Working as a team in the Splat Zones (11-1, Zink Mini Splatling)

6th November 2017 – 7.00 pm

I stick to the edges and use the reasonable range of the Mini Splatling to lay down some ink. An early Echolocator shows me where the teal team are, but I still can't throw Disruptors reliably. Never mind, at least the Tri-slosher doesn't have a Bubbler ready when she comes close, unlike me, and a bit of jostling gets me two splats up nice and early. Good thing too, as it looks like the rest of my team have been splatted back to base.

I try to keep things tidy as my squidmates return, as well as keeping the ink flowing in to the Splat Zones. I have to run from a Kraken, but I have plenty of time to do so, and by then my squidmates are back and taking control. Nice! Point Sensors are flying everywhere, and I try to back them up with Disruptors, but not very well. That's okay, as my ink is helping splat the teal team, particularly when cornered and super-jumping in to corners.

I can take a quick breather, and check my surroundings. As the teal team come back I push up a bit, my Bubbler countering the Tri-slosher's, and thankfully I don't chase the splat pointlessly. Turning back gets me a free splat from another super-jumper anyway, followed by the returning Tri-slosher. But just as we are a few points away from a quick victory, we lose control of the Splat Zones for a second, giving us a buffer to work through. So it goes, and maybe that gives us more time for splatting.

Another super-jumper evades me because of the angles, and although our turf control lets us move up aggressively, I forget to watch my flank when chasing a splat. Still, it's my first splatting of the battle, which is a pretty impressive streak. We lose control of the Splat Zones for a split-second again, and our buffer spikes once more. But our turf control remains excellent, and I even survive a close call with a Kraken.

The Splat Zones remain orange, we remain cool, and the knockout victory is ours. Woomy! This has to be my best battle with the Mini Splatling yet.

Splatling around the Splat Zones (11-6, Zink Mini Splatling)

6th November 2017 – 7.00 am

I've not played with the Mini Splatling for a while, and not really played it much at all, but on a whim I'm bringing it out for some Splat Zones. A bit of Run Speed seems like a good idea, as does hanging back and inking, as I prove when I push forwards optimistically and get caught up in a Suction Bomb Rush.

The purple team look to be pushing past the Splat Zones, so I ignore the main route back and look to bypass any threats. A bit of tactical sense, and a Bubbler, keeps me safe, but ink from behind stops me concentrating on the Splat Zones. I deal with the Splatterscope well, but not well enough not to squid in to his Splat Bomb.

Oh, a Beakon. I probably could have jumped to that. Never mind. I drop in to the middle of another Suction Bomb Rush, and do well to survive, thanks to my shoes. I even turn the situation around, my Bubbler obviously helping, but soon find myself pinned back by sloshing and charging. I don't think a better-aimed Disruptor would have helped either.

Oh, right, the Beakon. Next time. And more trouble as I drop down. But Krakens aren't too much of a bother from that distance. Besides, I know a few manoeuvres. Slinking back in to the Splat Zones lands a super-jumper in the path I'm inking anyway, thanks for the easy splat, and I get enough distance and turn to catch the Kraken transforming back. That went well. We even capture the Splat Zones.

The splats start coming as the ink keeps flowing, but the confidence encourages me to get a bit close to the purple team. Being splatted lets me jump to a Beakon at last. It gets me in to a pretty good position, which the Splatterscope tries to clear me out of, but I can narrow the angle to draw him out. Moving back to the Splat Zones finds more opportunity and charges my Bubbler, and with the purple inklings out of the way we get our counter started again.

Sadly, I just about run out of charge when engaging the Splash-o-matic. I seem to have a tendency to panic a little when in close range and my current charge runs out. Hopefully that will be get better with experience. My next super-jump to a Beakon doesn't land me where I expect, but I roll with it, and try to keep the turf safe for an incoming squidmate, which I mostly do, but at my own expense. Maybe I should have concentrated on the Splat Zones, which turn purple again.

I come back to see a nice telltale laser sight, and drop down to splat instead of be splatted, and dash an inking path through the Splat Zones to keep safe as ink tickles my heels. The battle timer counts down as we regain control of the Splat Zones, but with a hefty buffer to work through before we can get those few points we need for victory. Time for some full defence!

I get an excellent Disruptor hit to slow down the Brush, and push up to splat the Slosher moments later. I pop my Bubbler to refill my tank and stay safe, thinking we're close to victory than we are, but all still looks positive. Circumstances can change quickly, though. I push up, Splat Zones yellow, but turn back as I hear bombs flying in. Before I can do anything else, a squidmate is splatted in the Splat Zones, his purple puddle securing the victory for the purple team. Good game, everyone!

My first battle back with the Mini Splatling goes pretty well! The ones afterwards, not quite so well. But that's okay.

Messy Rainmaker (15-6, Carbon Roller Deco)

5th November 2017 – 7.00 pm

A mediocre start for me, as I'm trying to work out what to do with my Carbon Roller Deco and its Seekers in Bluefin Depot. I'm sure the Carbon Roller works, but maybe not the Seekers. Perhaps the standard Carbon Roller would be better, with Burst Bombs and Inkzooka. But here we go. I hold back because of my uncertainty, but that lets me track inklings and the Rainmaker, which helps.

Moving with the Rainmaker lets me provide close support too, and I make sure to keep up with my squidmate with the Rainmaker, although the teal team are on top of things. Not surprising, as they are above us. I am caught between inklings when I accidentally activate my Seeker Rush, but it seems it would have gone to waste anyway.

My return is short-lived, but my next attempt along the same route goes better, with the Rainmaker hopping backwards in to my Roller, not quite expecting anyone to be there. My Seeker Rush almost comes in handy too, and this time I leave the Rainmaker to my squidmates, as I head around to flank. I generally do well that way. And maybe the Rainmaker doesn't get far, but I get a fun splat on the Heavy Splatling.

I go ahead of the Rainmaker now, but hold back when the teal team feel like they're around the corner. My squidmate with the Rainmaker doesn't get the same feeling, but does get splatted. I avenge him immediately, with a nifyt double-splat, and squeeze past the Rainmaker before flopping ineffectually, in a bid to get up the wall.

I do a flop when teal ink bursts behind. A squidmate has splatted that inkling, but rather than do another u-turn I keep heading that way to again attempt to hit the teal team from an unexpected angle. The Splatling certainly wasn't expecting me, about as much as I wasn't expecting to activate my Seeker Rush, and my discombobulation is more apparent when I miss the splat immediately.

I stay unsplatted, though, and even if the Rainmaker is dropped, it is dropped in a good place. Perhaps this time I should have looked ahead and let my squidmates continue their control of the Rainmaker. Super-jumping back was almost a mistake, but the Heavy Splatling made a bigger mistake with his timing, letting me squid on. A Seeker does its job, and even though my ink-resistant shoes aren't quite resistant enough to let me walk out of the Killer Wail, the Roller would have got me anyway.

I stop the Rainmaker with a Seeker, as the Rainmaker stops me, and another Seeker finds its target as I return. But I can't just sit away from the action. I drop down and move forwards, almost squishing the inkling releasing the Killer Wail. I get the splat anyway, but it seems the rest of the teal team are returning at just this moment, and I'm splatted again.

The battle enters extra time, but our lead is healthy and the Rainmaker on the other side of the Depot. I hold back, hiding behind a wall that may not protect me against the Rainmaker, but there's not much else that needs to be done. I splat an inkling hoping to ink a path, and watch as the Rainmaker accidentally falls in to the water, ending the battle. That was a bit messy, but good fun!

Slow to the podium in Rainmaker (9-2, Carbon Roller Deco)

5th November 2017 – 7.00 am

No green inklings are splatted when the Rainmaker's shield bursts, so it's probably worth hanging back for now. To prove it, I splat the green Rainmaker carrier pretty easily. I move up and get two more splats quickly, although one of them is me, slipping in to the drink.

I head back around the side, in case the green team are coming this way, but they aren't. A squidmate has the Rainmaker, which is good, and what's also good is that I am in a flanking position, and helping to clear the path. It all looks very clear indeed as I launch a Seeker or two down the main corridor, and that makes me wonder what our squidmate is waiting for to move the Rainmaker. But he goes eventually.

The Rainmaker doesn't move down the inked path, but the side. Never mind, maybe I can support from the flank again. Or get splatted quickly. But I return, and look to defend the green Rainmaker push. I get distracted pretty easily by the E-litre 3K blocking our path, but that gets me some revenge for my last splatting, and some satisfaction from approaching and splatting the E-litre 3K with my Carbon Roller.

A Seeker Rush charges, which is a really good time to support the Rainmaker directly, so I head across the bridge to where my squimdate is being chased from behind, but too late to save him. Even so, the Seekers are good against the Rainmaker's shield, if I can stop them going for inklings. I can, and have Seekers to spare, getting me a handy extra splat.

I grab the Rainmaker, sensing an opportunity, but once again fail to ink the floodgate with it sufficiently for me to squid to the top, and then falling down when I finally get up there. At least my squidmates have my back, so that I'm not splatted.

I manage to time a Rainmaker blast really well to clear one inkling out of my way, and an Inkstrike flies in on top of the podium to ensure me that path to the goal is clear. Just a bit more ink is needed, and I dunk the Rainmaker for the knockout victory. Woomy!

Steaming ahead of the Rainmaker (8-2, Carbon Roller Deco)

4th November 2017 – 7.00 pm

Camp Triggerfish Rainmaker has a great opening move for the Carbon Roller Deco. Release one Seeker to start, a second as soon as your ink tank can, and you'll reach the Rainmaker with one Seeker hitting its shield, a second ready to go, and probably before the other team.

I grab the Rainmaker and run, but with resistance around the corner. Blasting with the Rainmaker can be a good way to clear the path ahead, but it also takes time, which the orange inklings use to get in to position. I still somehow manage to sneak past a Kraken and on to the webbing, where it can't follow me, but the inklings can.

Super-jumping back seems safe, particularly as the Rainmaker bursts with teal ink far ahead. Circumstances can change so quickly, though, and I see an orange inkling heading towards me landing spot. Thankfully, I have just enough time to turn and land flicking, which saves me and our E-litre 3K. A Killer Wail immediately afterwards leaves me little time to react, but hiding from the Wail lets me pause for a moment.

I decide to head down the main corridor, to try to flank the orange team, and although I decide on a little caution the orange inklings are wise to it. Even so, not only are they not heading towards the moving Rainmaker, the Carbon Roller the splats me jumps in to the water whilst flicking. Nice!

Our E-litre 3K is providing a stable super-jumping point for a bit of defence. I splat the Carbon Roller away, and a light-footed inkling dodges a bit too quickly and walks back in to a Seeker that wasn't going his way. Heading towards the Rainmaker to defend turns in to an attack, and I make the most of my mistake in falling off the ledge to protect the underneath of the webbing for a bit.

I don't stay under the webbing for long. I have a Seeker Rush charged, and the route to the podium is straight. I hop up, get in front of the Rainmaker, and start launching Seekers. The Seeker Rush in this position is formidable, but I don't forget the obvious hiding positions around the corners, which deserve a flick or two in passing.

The Seeker Rush did its job, and the path to the podium is inked and clear of orange inklings. My squidmate dunks the Rainmaker soon after, for a great knockout victory. Woomy!

Hits and misses in Splat Zones (12-5, Fresh Squiffer)

4th November 2017 – 7.00 am

That's a nice early splat, with good and stable aiming, which bolsters my confidence. I miss the next shot, but it was against a flying squid, and I got close enough that I'm still impressed with myself. Our early lead is lost, but it's still really early and that's not a problem. I just ink a new path and start Squiffing in to the Splat Zones.

Spotting a Sprinkler gives me a good sighter to squiff at, and although my first shot at the nimble N-ZAP goes wide, she doesn't have many options where to go, and I splat her in a puddle, right before we re-take the lead. I miss the Dynamo Roller a couple of times, but I keep my cool, regain some ink, and get the splat from a different angle. If only I spotted that Seeker.

Everything's going well, so I super-jump back a little behind the lines. But thing's aren't going quite so well that I can land there safely. So it goes. Despite the Splat Zones being teal and not purple, I don't rush to ink them, risking a silly splatting. I take my time, ink around the edges. Dropping down to avoid a Killer Wail gives a purple inkling a target. I squiff back, getting a good hit, but with not quite enough ink for the splat. No problem, not with my Kraken charging, and I hide in the ink, waiting to see if I need the Kraken. Not yet!

With the Kraken ready, though, I head in to the Splat Zones. I see a target and transform, not minding the chase either, as it just inks more of the Splat Zones purple. When the teal inklings are escorted out of the Splat Zones we recapture them, and we revert to defending. I see the opposite platform is a hotbed of super-jumping, and launch a Suction Bomb that way, which bags me an exquisite double-splat when I splat a squid mid-air jumping away from the Suction Bomb just as the super-jumping Dynamo Roller lands on it. Nice!

It's a shame I don't have the range to hit the Inkstriker. I jump down to avoid the Inkstrike itself, and get a wonderful little splat which is almost the opposite of the double-splat: a partial Squiffer hit plus a Suction Bomb on the same inkling. The Splat Zones become safe again, for which I am thankful, and I wait and watch for where to defend. I hit one Sprinkler, amazingly miss a second, and although my defensive manoeuvres after that are pretty good, the slightest of misses gets me splatted. So it goes.

Coming back gets me a very well-timed splat on the Dynamo Roller in full backswing, and I thank my squidmate for taking the hit from the N-ZAP as I get some revenge for a my last splatting. The Splat Zones need some attention, which I try to give them. My Kraken lets me be daring and chase an inkling, but I again don't stop the Inkstrike, which I then squid in to after my Kraken expires, but I still somehow survive long enough to help recover the Splat Zones, right before the Dynamo Roller gets his own revenge.

With less than a minute to go, the teal team get quite aggressive with turf control. But we have the lead, so I ignore their presence on our side of the Mall and simply head around the side to the Splat Zones. I can see two more inklings press high, which would bode well for my sneakiness if the Dynamo Roller hadn't spied me. But I get my Kraken, which gives me the confidence to drop down in to the teal Splat Zones and roll around a bit.

My Kraken doesn't find the Dynamo Roller, which is a shame, but with ten seconds to go and only needing to neutralise the Splat Zones, I am encouraged to just poke around with my Squiffer. And there's the Dynamo Roller, squiffed. That'll do. But just for luck, I squiff another inkling hoping for an extra-time win. Not on my watch. That's a really smooth finish. Woomy!

Frantic Rainmaker (19-5, Tri-slosher)

3rd November 2017 – 7.00 pm

A steady, conscientious start to the battle, inking some turf, building some charge, watching the map. I intercept a flanking orange inkling, and avoid rushing in to the bulging orange Rainmaker's shield. Squidding up to help grab the reset Rainmaker ourselves, I kinda hope my squidmate will follow me down the side route, but he chooses a different way. I weigh my options, and continue ahead to surprise from behind. Or squid in to a Seeker. Either way.

Super-jumping back as control is handed over is risky, but it works out, and I help trying to stop the orange push. I block one route, but lose track of the Rainmaker behind the wall. I think I catch up, but the carrier shows a rather swift pair of heels, and my Disruptor misses. I keep my focus, orange ink catching me up, and get the splat, turning on my own pursuers popping my Bubbler to keep me safe. Nice!

The splatting continues, although the quad evades me like the inklings evade my Disruptors, but the final splat of the sequence shows maturity on my part, as I wait out the Splattershot Jr.'s Bubbler like a pro. Or maybe advanced amateur. Time to support the Rainmaker! Once I find it, that is. My squidmate has made a good move forwards, but time is running out. I try to keep the path clear, but we both get hit from below.

I come back tidying up some orange mess, and tracking the Rainmaker. I feel safe keeping my distance and waiting for it to come to me, until an orange Inkstrike lands behind me, and a Splat Bomb rolls next to me. But my Bubbler chargers, I have Disruptors, and my squidmates are around. We splat the Rainmaker, its support, and grab the Rainmaker back for ourselves in short order.

I push ahead, but now the Rainmaker decides to take the other route. So it goes, and when I realise this I push past the podium, inking as I go, to provide flanking support again, more successfully this time. But where's our squidmate with the Rainmaker? No idea. I think he didn't realise he had support ahead clearing the path, and instead headed around the long way. Never mind

Here he comes, as I jink here and there to try to bamboozle anyone trying to track me. Maybe it works, maybe no one was bothering to track me, and I come up from behind again to get a decent splat that is also a lucky double-splat, but not quite quickly enough to stop the Inkstrike that stops our Rainmaker. I try to push back the orange presence, but I know that my lack of range will hurt me where I am. Little do I know that turning around to find a different route will hurt me more, as I walk in to a Suction Bomb.

It's almost good that I'm splatted, as some sneaky orange inkling has inked a path all the way to the podium. Best clear that up, in case we lose our lead very quickly, and get back on defence. The path the Rainmaker is using is obvious, and easily stopped. Sadly, so am I when I run out of ink. What a time for that to happen, as I can't protect the Rainmaker, and it is dropped along the corridor to our base!

Some frantic defence is required. I hit something with a Disruptor, and slosh whatever moves, but I only trade splats with one inkling. Another orange inkling pops a Bubbler, sharing it with another, but thankfully that doesn't quite shield the Rainmaker enough to prevent my squidmates splatting him only just short of taking the lead.

We're not quite out of trouble yet, but our team converges on the Rainmaker to burst the shield as orange inklings come super-jumping in, and our combined ink overwhelms their individual efforts. The Rainmaker is moved from danger, and we don't quite get it over the ramp and out of our territory, we do enough at this late stage in the battle to ensure our victory. Woomy!

Pushing forwards and holding back in Rainmaker (18-6, Tri-slosher)

3rd November 2017 – 7.00 am

There are no obvious targets for my bucket, so I take time inking turf before looking for an opportunity to do some splatting. A strategic Disruptor throw to the obvious perch is a good choice, and following-up gets me an unexpected target on my way to my first choice, who is highlighted by a handy Echolocator. And my squimdates recover and grab the Rainmaker as the purple team dissolve, making my forward position potentially handy.

I get a double-splat when trying to keep a path inked, but don't realise there are two inklings, or maybe I'd have used my Bubbler. So it goes, and our position is good enough that super-jumping back is a good idea. I don't quite manage to keep the Rainmaker safe, but I do squid around the long way to surprise the purple Rainmaker and stop it going anywhere, right before I fail to use my fresh Bubbler again.

The Rainmaker doesn't go far, so I pause to spot my best opportunity, and get jumped by a Kraken when I get in too deep too soon. But I bide my time as the Rainmaker comes our way, not rushing in too obviously, and even ignore one inkling to concentrate on the Rainmaker. I help hold our turf, but get flummoxed by both moving platforms in succession, one hit by an Instrike as I try to jump from the grate, the other lifting an Inkzooka almost out of range.

I circle back to help with the Rainmaker. I only half-heartedly try to burst the shield, only really wanting to keep it yellow before support arrives. When support does arrive, I grab it for a run and go, perhaps a little cautious about what's below me until an Echolocator shows me that nothing is. It looks safe to push forwards, but just as I do, a Splat Bomb rolls where I want to go. I can't avoid that with the added inertia of the Rainmaker.

A bit of tidying up rarely goes amiss, preventing easy squidding for the purple team, and as they have to take time to ink their path, I have time to see their route and blindside them, thanks to taking advantage of the walls. We start moving the Rainmaker back towards the purple plinth, and with the splats coming fast I get confident enough to get close to the base. It doesn't work out for me, but my squidmates increase our already healthy lead nicely. I think my splatter gets splatted by a Sprinkler too. Nice!

It almost looks like we'll reach the goal, but my squidmates are stopped. I confidently super-jump back, and trade myself for two purple inklings, which isn't bad, and watch as the Rainmaker gets reset as it drops off the office level. I take the slow way back, and meet most of the purple team as they push forwards. The Inkzooka is no bother, the Suction Bomb Rush a little more tricky to navigate, and I turn around to find and splat the inkling that got away.

Only seconds remain, and we simply have to leave the Rainmaker in its shield for the battle to be won. Woomy!

Fighting back the purple torrent in Rainmaker (20-5, Tri-slosher)

2nd November 2017 – 7.00 pm

Stopping the Rainmaker is worth the mutual splat, I would say, but it doesn't look like it's going to stop the purple team for long. They come back immediately. I wisely don't approach head-on, and get a good splat to my credit, whilst accidentally falling off the platform helps me survive. Squidding around behind the shielded Rainmaker gets me an easy splat on the Splatterscope, who apparently doesn't pay attention to Echolocators.

I should splat the super-jumper relatively easily, but she disappears, before returning in greater numbers. More inklings for me to splat! I come back thinking about supporting the Rainmaker directly, but instead choosing to ink a forward path, whilst allowing me to work my way around the purple team. It almost helps us, but the purple team regain control, and another circuit doesn't get me much further.

The purple team advance again, increasing their lead little by little. I move to flank, coming from behind to get a couple of splats, but moving across to hopefully chase another inkling only sees the Rainmaker get closer to our podium. I dash across and help with a Disruptor against the Rainmaker, and splatting the returning purple inklings, before helping push the Rainmaker in the right direction.

I take care not to raise the platform before the Rainmaker catches me, already having had the platform rise at frustrating moments in this battle, and push forwards to help clear a path. I don't splat the Splatterscope immediately, but show good target selection to turn and splat the shooter on my tail first. The Splatterscope panics a little in close range, giving me time to turn back and splat her too.

We lose the Rainmaker, but with the purple team being splatted I trust my squidmates to take care of regaining control, and press for more turf control and suppression of the purple team. That gets me splatted, not quite realising my Bubbler is ready, but it splats two more inklings and keeps a third occupied, as my squidmates push us in to the lead! Nice!

I hope to quickly super-jump back to the action, but everyone is splatted. Not a problem! We've done what we need to for now. It's time to settle in to a defensive posture. I find a nice spot to wait for the oncoming Rainmaker, and feel a quad-splat dropping in to my lap. A Bubbler pops those dreams, sadly. So it goes.

As time ticks down, the purple team lose the Rainmaker. I am happy to chuck a Disruptor and slow down bursting the Rainmaker's Shield, and just wait. The longer the Rainmaker is in its shield, the closer we get to victory. The shield is burst eventually, and I throw a cheeky Disruptor to catch whoever is bound to immediately grab it. The Disruptor works a treat, and the Rainmaker is reset in to its shield.

Only a few seconds remain, and we are finally in control. We hold the Rainmaker, we hold our turf, and we win the battle. And it's another 20-splat battle for me! Woomy!
